The MLS regular season is about to draw to a close and although Inter Miami’s campaign will end there after their failure to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs, they still have two matches left to play, both of which will see them face Charlotte FC (without Lionel Messi on Wednesday, with him on Saturday).

Ahead of the final matches of the league phase, the Major League Soccer Players Association updated its 2023 Salary Guide to include salary information for all players under contract as of 15 September this year. The new list therefore includes the former Barcelona star for the first time, and it won’t come as much of a surprise to see which position he is in.

How much does Messi earn at Inter Miami?

The list indicates each player’s base salary, along with their “Annual Average Guaranteed Compensation”, which includes “all signing and guaranteed bonuses annualised over the term of the player’s contract, including option years” and “any marketing bonus and any agent’s fees, both annualised over the term of the contract.”

Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) – $20.4 million Guaranteed Compesnation per year.Lorenzo Insigne (Toronto FC) – $15.4 million Guaranteed Compesnation per year.Xherdan Shaquiri (Chicago Fire) – $8.1 million Guaranteed Compesnation per year.Javier Hernández (LA Galaxy) – $7.4 million Guaranteed Compesnation per year.Héctor Herrera (Houston Dymano) – $5.2 million Guaranteed Compesnation per year.

With a base salary of $12 million per year, rising to more than $20.4 million in Guaranteed Compensation, no player, not even David Beckham, has earned more from his club in the history of MLS than Messi. It should be noted that the number quotes has been calculated by taking the amount he has earned so far and extrapolated over a period of 12 months.
